Teens Event on Abortion

Join us to gain clarity, discernment, and faithfulness on a vitally important topic.

The Silicon Valley Bible Conference is only a month away. On Saturday, October 25, Dr. Mark Jones will preach on the person of Christ. I hope you will take a look at the website, plan to come, and don’t forget to sign up.

Abortion: The Changing Debate

We are also hosting a special pre-conference event for teens on Friday evening, October 24. The title is “Abortion: The Changing Debate.” Dr. Mark Jones will be our first speaker. He wrote a moving little book on abortion, If I Could Speak: Letters from the Womb. Our second speaker will be Mrs. Esther Holst, a teacher and Department Head of Christian Studies at Live Oak Academy.

The goal of the event is to equip our teenagers with biblical clarity about abortion, so that they can live with discernment and faithfulness.

Faithfulness Requires Clarity

The competing perspectives on abortion are bewildering to many. Christians call it a serious sin. Its supporters call it “reproductive healthcare,” “bodily autonomy,” “women’s rights.” For many Christians, these terms raise a big question: Does the Bible really teach us to oppose healthcare and personal freedom?

With many unanswered questions and plausible perspectives, it seems like we should just agree to disagree. If our teens are to develop true and lasting faithfulness in this area, they will need a clear grasp of the subject, starting with first principles.

Mark Jones will help teenagers consider these things from Scripture, with thought-provoking reflections. For example, have you ever considered that God himself was once an unborn baby in a mother’s womb?

Faithfulness Requires Discernment

One evening of clear teaching will not be enough on its own, because the debate about abortion is always changing. Esther Holst will help teens grow in discernment, by showing how arguments for abortion have changed over the years.

Abortion advocates used to say that abortion should be “safe, legal, and rare.” Today, they are more likely to say that it is essential healthcare and a vital part of social justice. For many years, in the American context, they claimed it was a "constitutional right.” Since Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022, that is no longer the case. Teens should know that abortion advocates are often contradicting their own arguments.
