Silicon Valley Bible Conference 2025

Two memorable books

I remember the first time I read J.I. Packer’s classic work, Knowing God. The simplicity, depth, and sheer spiritual force of this work made a lasting impression on me. At first, I did not appreciate what a wealth of learning Dr. Packer brought to that book. He had spent years studying Richard Baxter, John Owen, and other great theologians, but his writing was simple and clear, offering biblical guidance and inspiration to encourage readers to seek the true and living God for themselves.

About ten years ago, Dr. Mark Jones published another book of that kind, entitled Knowing Christ. The foreword was written by Dr. Packer himself, and the similarities did not end there. Dr. Jones also brought a wealth of learning to this book, after long study in the writings of Thomas Goodwin. The book is simple and clear, with short chapters filled with Scripture. The best thing about the book is that it offers many fresh and striking perspectives on the person of Jesus Christ. The overall effect is to lead readers to know and love Jesus Christ for who he really is.

Silicon Valley Bible Conference 2025

Dr. Jones will be our speaker at this year’s Silicon Valley Bible Conference, to be held at our church on October 25. His theme will be “Knowing Christ.” We hope you will come to get a fresh perspective on the divine glory of Jesus Christ, his amazing humility, his love for sinners, and his ability to help us with every spiritual need.

All the details are at the conference website. We hope you will come, and that you will share the invitation with friends who might like to join us. Lunch will be provided!

Pre-conference teens night

The evening before the conference (Friday, October 24), we will host a teens night addressing the topic of abortion. This is a pressing issue, in personal decisions and in public affairs. We hope to present the foundational biblical principles for thinking about abortion, in order to encourage teens to be faithful to Christ in all of life. While the evening will be especially suitable for teens, everyone is welcome to attend. Registration is open at the conference website.

Dr. Jones will be one of our speakers that night. He has written a moving little book on this subject, Letters From the Womb. Another speaker will be announced soon.
