Sacrifice (announcements for Feb 6)
Hi everyone,
At prayer meeting this week, we read Matthew 26:1-16. This is where the story of Jesus’s death begins. The text shows us two characters, each with a very different part in the story of Jesus’s death. First, we meet a woman who spends lavishly on perfume to prepare Jesus’s body for burial. She knew (v.2) that Jesus was going to die soon, and no price was too high to honor him for his sacrificial and saving love.
The second person we meet is Judas, who (along with the other disciples) thought this was a great waste of money. They said that they wanted to use it for the poor, but it seems that this was a cover for selfishness—at least in Judas’s case. He was so disgusted with this impracticality that he betrayed his master for the paltry sum of thirty silver coins.
Here’s a simple question for you to think about: Are you like this woman or Judas? Are you willing to honor Jesus at any cost, or are you only willing to follow him until someone else offers you a better deal?
Only one of these is the right way to treat a savior who paid for our salvation with his blood.
Sincerely,
Pastor Goligher

Preparing for the Lord’s Supper
As you prepare for worship this Lord’s Day, here’s a comment from William Perkins on the Lord’s Supper:
Seeing there is a real communion in the sacrament between Christ and every believing heart, our duty therefore is to bestow our hearts on Christ, endeavoring to love him, and to rejoice in him, and to long after him above all things. All our trust must be in him, and with him; we being now on earth must have our conversation in heaven.
