November at First OPC
Dear friends,
Since our last update in early October, God has been blessing us with new joys and helping us through some new challenges as well.
Ordination and Installation
One of our joys has been the arrival of our new associate pastor, Nathaniel Vroom, along with his family. On Friday evening, November 3, we gathered with many from our presbtery, plus a number of visiting family and guests, for an ordination and installation service.
It was a very special occasion, and we give thanks to God for continuing to build his church by giving a new pastor.
Health Problems
One unexpected challenge facing us right now has to do with my health. Since mid-September, I have been getting various scans and tests in order to diagnose a problem in my chest. Last week, I learned that I have a cancerous tumor behind my left lung, near the top.
We are just starting to learn what my treatment will involve. As we begin the process, we're very thankful for God's blessings to us so far, especially the amazing love and support of our church family and other friends.
Upcoming Plans
With holidays coming up, there are some schedule changes and special things happening that you might want to know about. You are all invited to participate, as you are able!
-
There will be some changes in November and December to our usual schedule for Prayer Meeting and Sunday School. You can find these on the church calendar.
-
There is a Ladies' Christmas Tea on December 9.
-
During our evening service on Christmas Eve, we will have our usual "lessons & carols" service. Afterwards, a group from the church will go caroling around the neighborhood. Everyone is welcome to come and sing, and also to join us for practices at 4pm on November 19th, December 10th, and December 17th.
