Not in Vain
We are preparing for this year’s Silicon Valley Bible Conference on November 7. Again this year, there will be a pre-conference event for teens on the evening of November 6. Follow those links for all the event details.
I wrote the following letter as an invitation to teenagers. Please share it with teenagers that you know who might be interested.
Hey there,
You're a teenager, and you're always working.
When you finish school, there's homework. Then it's time for practice. You need to practice for the recital. Soon, you'll have extra courses and college applications. This weekend you're volunteering at church.
Does it all really matter?
And don't you love it when people ask about your plans after school? You're interested in history, but you're also thinking about law. You're passionate about music and service ministries, but you can pay the bills with STEM.
How can you decide?
Meanwhile, the world is changing. AI tools can already do a lot of your schoolwork. The same thing is happening at college and in most jobs. The world could look very different in just a few years.
How will you handle yourself?
Here's a simple truth: Your daily work, now and in the future, is part of your relationship with God.
When you're working for God, your work matters. And when you're working for God, you can be sure of God’s help to handle a changing world full of dangers, disappointments, and hard decisions.
The Apostle Paul said:
"Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain." (1 Corinthians 15:58)
Not in vain. That's the theme of our teens night on November 6. We will give two talks from the Bible about how our daily work connects to our relationship with God. We'll also hear from three adults sharing some of their successes, failures, and the lessons they've learned. There will be snacks and drinks too!
I hope you'll join us.
Sincerely,
Pastor Calvin Goligher
