Life-transforming grace (announcements for October 31)
Hi everyone,
Happy Reformation Day this Sunday!
This week, our Bible reading plan (Adults’ Version, Kids’ Version) takes us from the end of Genesis into the beginning of Exodus. In this portion of Scripture, all the odds are against the promises we read about in Genesis. Israel is far from the land, and surrounded by prosperous and strong enemies. The offspring of Abraham is threatened through murderous working conditions and the murder of infant boys. Yet God moved heaven and earth (literally!) to keep those promises and to glorify himself as the true God, against all the false gods of Egypt.
In 1 Thessalonians, we meet another group of people who received God’s life-transforming grace. By the power of God’s word, they were turned from idols to worship the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven.
Kids, have you ever been to a wedding? Jesus went to one once, and the story is recorded in John 2. While he was at the wedding, Jesus showed everyone that he is God, by making wine out of water. That made a big impression on the crowd, but in the next chapter Jesus made an even bigger impression on one man named Nicodemus. He told Nicodemus that he must be born all over again. When you get to that part this week, you should talk to your mom and dad about what that means.
Sincerely,
Pastor Goligher

Through the Week
Tuesday Bible Study meets at 10:30, at church and on Zoom. We are continuing to study what the Bible teaches about heaven and angels.
Prayer Meeting is on Wednesday evening at 7:15pm, at church and on Zoom.
Ladies’ Bible Study meets Thursday at 7pm, on Zoom. The study is based on Nancy Guthrie, The Promised One: Seeing Jesus in Genesis. This week’s study is Noah and the Flood (Genesis 6-9). Read the Teaching Chapter (pages 97-113). Complete the discussion questions on pages 114-115.
Sermon Notes for Kids
Starting this week, kids can look at the back of the church for a clipboard, with pencils and a page for taking sermon notes. Hopefully these will be valuable for kids who are learning to participate in worship and benefit from sermons.
Here is what the page looks like.
If you have any questions about this, please speak with Joy Loh.
November Fellowship Lunch
It has been some time since we held our usual monthly fellowship lunch! We are looking forward to our next one on Sunday November 14, after the morning service.
A few reminders: First, please plan to bring a main dish plus either a salad or a dessert. The idea is for each of us to bring enough food for ourselves to eat, with some extra to share with visitors.
Second, we will need some volunteers to help with setup and cleanup. We used to have a regular schedule for this, but we have not yet put that back together. If you are able to help this time, please speak with Jim or Julie Lemen.
