Just dropped
Seventy-five demos dropped yesterday, and more than four in five of their makers went it alone with no publisher in sight. Simulation and strategy dominated the pile, but only a handful already carry player reviews, so today's list splits between demos that stood out on craft and two that are already pulling in reader verdicts. We also set aside a couple of crowded arrivals whose own reviews came back mixed.
Today's pick
Matelotes
by La Poule Noire Self-published
Female Protagonist · Roguelite · Tabletop · Tactical · Dice · 2D
Why it leads: our strongest combined read on craft plus distinctiveness, out of the 75 demos that dropped yesterday.
A narrative pirate-adventure RPG about a missing royal hen, unqualified sailors, and island-hopping politics, with boat upgrades tying the journey together.
One of just 15 Steam games combining Female Protagonist + Dice · 2 early demo review(s)
Also worth a look
THORNSPELL
by MODACH GAMES Self-published
Card Game · Roguelike · Roguelike Deckbuilder · Deckbuilding · Singleplayer · Strategy
A garden-building roguelike that casts you as a florist chaining magical plant effects to push back a spreading corruption, an unusual spin on the genre's usual dungeon crawl.
The Journey Home
by Joey's Entertainment Self-published
Adventure · Platformer · Puzzle · 2D Platformer · 2.5D · Cinematic
A stress-free, atmospheric side-scrolling adventure about introspection beyond time and space, presented with a store page far more finished than most demos manage.
Zombie Mystery: 100 Hidden Cats
by ArPeaKK Games Self-published
Casual · Hidden Object · Adventure · Puzzle · Hand-drawn · 2D
A click-and-search hidden object game built around rescuing 100 cats from a zombie-emptied city, with clues, a timer, and a leaderboard to chase.
Wizard Disaster
by Slimboy M. Self-published
Action · Adventure · Action-Adventure · 2D · Colorful · Funny
A stripped-down boss-rush through a cartoon wizard world: twelve bosses, three spells, and nothing padding the space between fights.
Big crowds, mixed reviews
Not picks: these drew a real day-one crowd while their own demo reviews read Mixed or worse. A big audience the game hasn't convinced is worth knowing about either way.
World of Slime (TEAM42) - 238 playing at peak on day one, but its 45 demo reviews read Mixed.
Catching on
Demos that launched in the last few days and are already getting noticed. From the moment a demo goes live we watch two things - the reviews players leave on the demo itself, and how many people are playing it right now. These are the ones where early players clearly like what they tried.
Gunmetal Gothic
by ynoham Self-published
Early Access · Third-Person Shooter · Action RPG · PvE · RPG · Co-op
A co-op shooter-RPG where players retake a demon-machine-infested city with customizable characters, backed by a sizeable community following and warm early reviews.
10 demo reviews so far, rated Positive · 5,624 community-hub followers
BOMBACON!
by Greyline Studio Self-published
Casual · Team-Based · Multiplayer · Co-op · Party Game · Puzzle
A three-player bomb-defusal party game leaning on blind, mute, and deaf pigs to force chaotic communication under a countdown, already drawing a mostly favorable reception.
11 demo reviews so far, rated Mostly Positive · 11 community-hub followers
