#feministfriday episode 500 | beer
Good afternoon everyone,
How is it going? I hope it's great. I hope you have something that you're really looking forward to this weekend.
One of the things I am looking forward to enormously is going to the pub and having a pint, what better reason than that to celebrate the brewer, mystic and frankly difficult to be with person Margery Kempe. Here's a book about Margery and Fem Fri Fave Julian of Norwich, that I can't wait to read:
Born in 1373, one-time brewer Margery Kempe had visions of Christ which set her off on a series of rambunctious, incident-packed pilgrimages to the Holy Land, Santiago de Compostela and Prussia. She dressed in white, like a virgin, despite having at least 14 children. She was tried for heresy several times but always managed to successfully rebut the charges.

This electrifying debut compares the spiritual adventures of Margery Kempe and Julian of Norwich
Here's an interview with beer historian Theresa McCulla:
Histories of technology, transportation, advertising, politics, war, evolving gender roles, changing consumer tastes—beer is present in each of these stories. Even if someone does not drink beer, it's a safe guess to imagine that he or she may be able to describe a memory of a place, person, or time in which beer played a role. It is incredibly gratifying—and fun—to start a conversation about history with beer.

Finally, here's a lovely beer can from the premium designer Semi Lee. I love the shy little mooon 🌝🌝🌝:
