🎇 Happy Independence Day!
Hello friends! We have a short week so enjoy the extra down time!
The summer retreat was a wonderful time to be together with God's family! I was glad to see everyone smiling and enjoying each other's company. 🛌 I definitely loved my afternoon siesta during free time!
We have four items this week! (389 words; ~1.5 minute read time)
1. 👧🏻 MICHIGAN VBS TEAM
Please keep pastor Jeff and the team in prayer as they head over to our Oakland campus to help with the VBS next week. Members include Noah, Abi, Jessica, and Christine.
🎤 Also pray for pastor Jeff as he speaks for the English at the Oakland campus retreat the weekend following the VBS! Ask that God would grant Jeff the strength and energy needed!
2. 🗣️ GUEST SPEAKERS NEXT TWO SUNDAYS
Next two Sundays, we will have guest speakers during our Kairos worship service. Pastor Eddie will be speaking this Sunday and Jane Fan will be speaking on July 14. Praying that God will speak through our preachers to help us grow in Christ!
3. 🚨 DIRE WARNING
Ever wonder what the effects of the smartphone and social media are for children and adolescents? I've been reading The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt and my mind is blown! I think this is a must read for parents and would-be-parents as we realize the negative impact a phone based childhood has brought to today's adults!
- 👉 The basic premise is that we've overprotected our children in the real world and have under-protected them in the online world.
- This has led to an exponential increase in mental health challenges and relational difficulties for adolescents and college students since the introduction of the smartphone and social media.
- If adults sometimes have a hard time with social media usage, how much more difficult it is for adolescents who are still developing to use it responsibly.
📱 I'm still working through the book but I see applications even for myself!
4. 🚙 ROAD TRIP!
Our family is headed out on a road trip tomorrow to visit four(!) national parks and sights in between! We will go to
- 🏔️ Grand Teton National Park
- 🦬 Yellowstone National Park
- 🧊 Glacier National Park
- 🪨 Yosemite National Park
☺️ Last time we were at Yellowstone, my father was still around so this will be a good trip to remember him by.
We will be gone until July 14, so we will see you all in a few Sundays! No newsletter next week because of the road trip!
