4. ๐Ÿ“š BOOK OF THE WEEK

image.png

I borrowed this book from the library after a review of the author's most recent book in Christianity Today. The author proposes the way for Christians to survive in a post-christian age and to counter the increasing slide of secularism is through adopting the rule of life offered by St. Benedict from the sixth century.

The message of this book is congruent with our recent series on the Sermon on the Mount and especially our last message on being salt and light. The Benedict Option says we need to live in our counter-cultural ways to model to the world the fulfilling life Christ offers. Our governments and political parties cannot deliver the kind of life and values only Jesus brings. The call is for a renewed commitment to living differently.

  • ๐Ÿ‘‰ "Instead of being seeker-friendly, we should be finder-friendly, offering those who come to us a new and different way of life." (p. 121) We are a place/people who live out the grace of God that stands in contrast to the drivenness of our society. This is what we offer people when they come!

Have a great week!
