[Famicom Party] Chapter 16, "Controller Input"

Hello!

It has been a very long wait for the next chapter, and I thank you all for your patience. Over the course of 2022, I changed jobs and moved across the country, which I think in combination probably aged me about seven years. 2023 has been off to a good start, though, and I've been able to dedicate more time to this project. The result is what I'm pleased to announce - Chapter 16, "Controller Input"!

This chapter explores the history of NES controllers, how they work at an electrical level, and how to read the state of the controller's buttons and use that in your game. Adding player input was the last piece required to make something you could confidently call a "game" and not just a demo. I'm excited to see what projects emerge from this chapter.

That said, there is still plenty of ground to cover. I'm still figuring out what would make the most sense as the next chapter, but I'm leaning toward collision detection. At some point in the future, I'll write about audio (an enormous topic), mapper chips, and more.

Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy the latest chapter, please feel free to send me an email if there's anything I can help with.

Until next time,
Kevin
