Failover Weekly: AI Is Paying the Cloud Bills

This week the theme is pretty consistent across all three shows: AI isn't just a trend, it's literally funding cloud infrastructure growth. AWS, Azure, and GCP are all posting strong numbers and the story is almost entirely AI workloads. Meanwhile Google Next happened, and the main takeaway seems to be that Google renamed a lot of things.

From the Network

Software Defined Talk Ep. 571: The Enterprise Dunbar Number

Brandon, Coté, and Matt dig into how AI labs have become the primary driver of hyperscaler revenue — which makes the simultaneous wave of layoffs at those same companies a bit ironic. There's also a deep Workday segment and a detour into teenagers bypassing age verification systems, which is honestly more interesting than anything Workday is doing.

The Reasoning Show Ep. 1025: AI News of the Month for April 2026

Brian and I do our monthly AI roundup — April was a packed month. If you haven't been tracking every model release and partnership announcement, this is the fastest way to catch up on what actually mattered.

The Cloud Pod Ep. 352: Google Next: Rebrandapalooza

Justin and the crew cover Google Next. The headline: Google renamed a lot of things. They break down what's actually new versus what's just wearing a new name badge.

What I'm listening to

Tech: Darknet Diaries Ep. 172 — SuperBox

There is a device being sold right now on Amazon and Best Buy that will steal your data and your bandwidth. It's called SuperBox and it looks like a perfectly normal streaming box. It is not. If you own one, listen to this episode immediately. If you don't own one, listen anyway. You've been warned.

Non-tech: If Books Could Kill — Grit

Turns out grit — the one psychological trait that was going to fix education, close achievement gaps, and unlock human potential — might just not be real. The hosts do a thorough, well-deserved takedown of Angela Duckworth's grit framework and the research that propped it up. Deeply satisfying if you've ever rolled your eyes at a motivational poster.
