Upcoming Events for 2024 ~ ExGld

Greetings Explorers!

Thanks to all of you who reached out after our last email, we're excited about the future and I was so happy to hear that many of you are as well. Today's dispatch is mostly to serve as an update on what we've been working on in addition to the organizational infrastructure.

Mystery Train Update

First up is the bad news, the Mystery Train is postponed. There was a great effort to get this off the ground but due to some unforeseen complications, it won't be able to happen in the near future. We're all super bummed about this and for those that were marking that weekend, we're sorry.

The work that went into it though will be used, and as soon as we have a new date I'll let you know. Again, I'm so sorry that this isn't going to happen in April.

Coming Soon

We do though have a number of other expeditions slated for this year and have been updated on our events calendar. Official Calls to Adventure will go out individually as we approach these dates, but for now if you're interested in any of these outings, now is a great time to mark the time on your personal calendars.

Kicking things off will be our replacement event for the Mystery Train in April, the tafoni sandstone formation on April 21st. This has been on my radar for a bit and I'm excited we get to go check it out. It should be a lovely hike into the hills of San Mateo to discover the unique monolith.

May 4th will be this year's Steeplechase. A lot has been said about this event, and this year we'll be going to the three carousels we've always ridden, but then also offering to visit the 4th one at the zoo.

Steeplechase is May 4th!

An outing that I've been wanting to do and has become possible now that they are offering tours again, on May 18th we have an appointment at the EBMUD water treatment facility. This is an especially fun one if you've even been curious what happens to all the water (and waste) in Alameda County once it gets flushed down the drain.

Plans for June and July are well on their way, but I'll hold off on giving information until we have details set. We do have one more special event locked in though for the summer, which is our campout. This year we're trying something new and camping along the American River. Days will be spent next to the river relaxing, telling stories, and for those interested, rafting along stretches of the river itself. Our River Rafting campout dates are locked in for August 16th - 18th.

GDC Carousel Day

Today, March 21st, is a special day for those of you who love carousels. One of our Explorers has rented the LeRoy Carousel all day for people to ride for free! If you're in the city, or can get there today, I highly suggest swinging by the Yerba Buena Gardens to ride the carousel from 11am to 6pm. Big shout out to Seg who made this opportunity happen.

The carousel is today!

Logistics Help Requested

The Explorers Guild is also looking for someone who is interested in helping us put on our big event in the Fall. We're specifically seeking someone who has an acute attention to detail and finds spreadsheets as their own beautiful art form. This role will ramp up as we lead to the event, but for now there's a lot of flexibility in time as we lay out the foundation. If you've ever seen or heard the tales of our Caravan Rally events, this our next follow up to that series.

If this is you, reach out and let me know. We'll have other opportunities to help with builds soon, but for now we're primarily looking for logistics help.

That's all for now explorers! I'm looking forward to seeing many of you again soon.
