Transit Nerd's Day Out - August 9 ~ ExGld
Hello Explorers!
Our next big event is coming in a couple of weeks, so it’s time to mark your calendars for Transit Nerd’s Day Out on Saturday, August 9th. Mind you, you don’t need to be a transit nerd to attend the event as transit nerd-curious are encouraged too. Captain Lark’s Call to Adventure is below and I (as a budding transit nerd) can’t wait to join.
Don’t forget, this Sunday (July 27th) is also our 10 Year Anniversary Celebration event!
Call to Adventure: Transit Nerd’s Day Out
Ho Explorers! Captain Lark here. As many of you know, I am a fan of trains. I love riding them, and seeing them, and visiting museums related to them. Recently I was speaking with several other explorers and discovered that they had never visited the two transit museums in San Francisco, the Cable Car Museum, and the San Francisco Railway Museum. Several of them had never ridden a cable car! One had never seen the boat tram! Realizing that perhaps others in our guild may find themselves in a similar predicament, I immediately began to plot a route through the beautiful grey streets of San Francisco that highlights some of my favorite transit gems. Come join me to experience, gush over, and learn about transit in SF at the "Transit Nerd's Day Out."
When and Where
We will meet at 1:00 pm, Saturday August 9, above the Powell BART station, near the cable car turnaround. Look for the flag! After riding several different forms of transit and visiting two transit museums, we will end at the Ferry Building around 4:00 pm.
What to bring
A clipper card or muni app with $11.85 loaded onto it
Optional cash to spend at the Cable Car museum gift shop (it's a great gift shop, but only accepts cash!)
Good walking shoes
Layers for the unpredictable SF weather
Sunscreen and a Jaunty Hat for some outdoor train waiting time

Anniversary Celebration - July 27th
All Explorers (new, veteran, and guild curious) are invited to come out on July 27th, 12-7pm, as this is our Anniversary Celebration.
From 12pm - 3pm we’ll have a bit of a picnic at Balboa Park. Let’s enjoy the outdoor space with a bit of sun and some field games. We’re planning to have the Timber Tortoises, some heroic rope games, the giant dung ball from Adventure Camp, and a couple more surprises too. If you care to join this first part, bring a picnic blanket and a shareable snack. Don’t fret too much about these details though, we mostly want to see you!
Then from 3 - 7pm, we’ll move the party indoors to the Ocean Room (350 Ocean Ave, SF). Here we’ll have some additional games, Explores Guild Archives, and story time. If there’s a Field Guide missing from your collection, or you just want to take a closer look at some of the builds from past events, we’re planning to have these here too. This is also a great time to let us know what you want from the Explorers Guild in the future.
All of these locations are near Balboa BART Station, and we highly suggest riding the train if you’re coming out.
