Tomorrow, Steeplechase (and rain?!?) ~ ExGld
Ho, Explorers!
Goodness me, alright lesson learned; I should not speak of currently beautiful weather right before an event. Tomorrow’s Steeplechase looks like it’ll be accompanied by a flash of morning rain. This of course is wild to think about especially in the context of this beautiful weather we’ve been having the last couple of days.
But perhaps this is the best opportunity to test our mettle as Explorers. Remember that people need us to reinvigorate the whimsy and joy of the city. Will we let a little rain stop us?!? Don’t we have jaunty umbrellas and/or rain jackets to go along with our hats?!? I say we meet this challenge and bravely go forth together in joyous singing and laughing!
As of now we’re still moving ahead with our steeplechase plans. Organizers have been keeping an eye on the storm and it looks like it’ll primarily hit in the morning, leaving the back half of our adventure overcast but rain free. If you’re looking for the up to the moment updates on where we are, how we’re dealing with the weather, or how much fun we’re having, I suggest joining our Slack channel #0504-steeplechase. If for whatever reason we postpone the event, we’ll be notifying in Slack first, follow by an email shortly after. Having said all that, I’m still feeling bullish on the event happening and letting the weather be a part of our fabled exploits.

Where: Starts at Pier 39 Carousel
When: Saturday, May 4th at 10am. Explorers can come and go throughout the day, for those wanting to do the classic circuit, we’ll likely be wrapping up at Golden Gate Park around 1:30, and those viewing for the quadruple crown we’ll likely be wrapping around 3 at SF Zoo.
What to bring: snacks/lunch, water, Muni transit pass, cash for carousel tickets ($14 per adult for the three carousels, $18 for the four), and zoo admission fee (if you’re aiming for all four). Lastly we ask that you trot out your finest carousel-worthy fashion (those jauntiest of jaunty hats!) for this extraordinary Explorer tradition (though don’t fret too much about this). This will also be a good time to break out your cutest umbrellas/rain jackets (or heck your most practical ones are also great).
