Steeplechase 2024, May 4th ~ ExGld
Hello Explorers!
We had a lovely day out to the Corte De Madera Creek Open Space Preserve on Sunday, and I’m putting together the Captain’s Report to be released in the coming days. In the meantime, we have another event right on the heels and I felt it was important to start letting you all know asap; the Steeplechase is less than two weeks away!
Steeplechase 2024

Welcome to the 7th annual Steeplechase! The sun has come out, the flowers are blooming, and the days are getting longer. Steeplechase season has returned, so we call upon all explorers to spread joy and whimsy across the city!
You are cordially invited to partake in the merriest go around San Francisco on Saturday, May 4, 2024. We will meet at the Carousel at Pier 39 at 10am and carouse together from there. What is going to make this year so special is that we’re also going to attempt all four carousels! In years past, we have been satisfied with riding the main three, but this year, and for those that are adventurous enough, we’re planning to also offer the one at the SF Zoo.
Steeplechase is a very family-friendly and new-explorer-friendly event. For those of you who have never heard of our steeplechase event, this is a time for explorers of all stripes to come together to reinvigorate the whimsy in San Francisco by riding each of the carousels that are found within the city limits. Doing this with a large number of people, wearing our jauntiest of jaunty hats, and all laughing together is truly special.
Where: Pier 39 Carousel
When: Saturday, May 4th at 10am. Explorers can come and go throughout the day, for those wanting to do the classic circuit, we’ll likely be wrapping up at Golden Gate Park around 1:30, and those viewing for the quadruple crown we’ll likely be wrapping around 3.
What to bring: snacks/lunch, water, transit pass, and cash for carousel tickets ($14 per adult for the three carousels). Lastly we ask that you trot out your finest carousel-worthy fashion (those jauntiest of jaunty hats!) for this extraordinary Explorer tradition (though don’t fret too much about this).
More is coming soon, but I hope to see y’all at Steeplechase on May 4th!
Semper Explorandum Explorers!
