About a month ago Explorers on our Slack expressed interest in visiting the San Francisco Airport Museum. Seeing as though this has been on my personal list for years (and with a big thanks to Alice who connected us with them) plans started to form.

The big news is that we have a date: Friday, April 3rd, 10am-12:30pm. If you're wondering why this event is on a weekday during business hours, it's because that's when tours are available. I realize this might be disappointing for some of you, but as we build out the field guide we hope it'll still be accessible for those of you passing through at your own leisure.

Without further ado, here’s your call to adventure!

SFO Museum - April 3rd

Most people move through airports with urgency, their eyes fixed on departure boards and distant destinations; but what if the airport is the destination? Beyond the security gates lies a world suspended between identities. The SFO Museum lives within this in-between space, hidden in plain sight, revealing itself only to those willing to slow their pace and look closely. On April 3rd, the Explorers Guild will step beyond the ordinary function of the airport and enter this liminal territory, not as passengers bound elsewhere, but as witnesses to the strange and beautiful reality of a place designed to be passed through, yet quietly waiting to be explored.

Will you join us?

Entering the airport is still an ordeal, so those that want to go will need to fill out their Museum Badge form and be prepared to show either a passport or Real ID. The novelty about visiting an airport without a ticket should be fun but it doesn’t come without a couple hoops to jump through. If this is a barrier for your enjoyment though I want you to know in advance.

If you're interested we want to know ASAP. Tour sizes usually top at 11, but we might be able to increase the capacity if we have enough people sign up.

So, what should you do if you want to attend?

Step 1: Let us know you’re interested by filling out our Explorers Guild Form. This will help us coordinate our group.

Step 2: Fill out this Museum Badge form. This is a requirement from the museum.

Step 3: Send your completed Museum Badge Form to semperexplorandum@gmail.com

We have more bubbling up at the Explorers Guild. This weekend is our stuffed animal taxidermy workshop, but we’ll also be hosting one for the Young at Heart on March 22nd. More info on that next week.
