Rodeo Beach, July 21st ~ ExGld
Hello Explorers!
I hope you all got through the heat wave last week. I found myself in the Sierras where the afternoon temperature reached 110°F and the only break from the heat was finding a spot of shade in the snowmelt fed Feather River. What was incredible about this spot was that every few hours a train went through; and these trains were either coming to or from Portola (which is home to our friends at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum). It was making me long for a return to the museum for a refresher on how to drive a train, but that won’t be this year, maybe next year though…
In the meantime, our next outing is coming up quickly. After our big multi peak urban hike, we’ll be slowing things down a bit for our Rodeo Beach outing. The Call to Adventure is below. We’re also going to officially open up registration for our river rafting campout on Monday, July 15th at 10am. If you’re interested in attending this, I highly suggest registering early as we expect this to fill out quickly.
Rodeo Beach, Sunday July 21
Are you the type of person who when visiting a beach stares at individual pieces of sand? Have you ever wondered what they are or how they got there? Do you walk up and down the tide line, looking for the rock that speaks to you the most? When you find one, and you’re surrounded by billions of other pebbles, do you wonder why are you fascinated with the one in your hand? If you’ve considered any (or all) of these questions, our upcoming Rodeo Beach expedition might be perfect for you.
On July 21st, we’ll be heading to Rodeo Beach. Here we’ll take a dive into rock identification and appreciation. This beach is lovely for scores of reasons, but the sand is a particular highlight. A rainbow of colors await us, including the rare and elusive carnelian orange.
This event structure is primarily focused on hanging out by the beach and doing micro explorations but we’ll include a trek along the beach to move our legs a bit. All are welcome, and this is particularly accessible for families.
Where: Rodeo Beach, look for the flag
When: 10am - 1pm
What to bring: Lunch, jaunty hat, beach towel, sunscreen, beach chair (if you prefer sitting on that), magnifying glass (if you got one).

Don’t forget on Monday, we’ll be opening up registration for river rafting campout. We’re limited on space, so if you’re interested make sure you set your calendars.
