Rafting Campout, August 16-18 ~ ExGld
Greetings Explorers!
I’m excited to officially open registration for our summer rafting campout! We’re so lucky to have a couple of river guides in our ranks who have been working with me on all the details and logistics for this trip. Their confidence and experience have propelled this event, so thank you Tree and Lily. With that, it’s time for the official call to adventure!
River Rafting Campout, August 16-18
Out in the foothills of the Sierras, snowmelt forms an incredible network of rivers and streams down to the San Francisco Bay. The flow of water connects us all, but rarely do we actually get to explore it personally. The Explorers Guild now has a unique opportunity: a couple of our members have offered to take us rafting down the river. We will navigate the flow, feel the water rushing by us, and experience things we’ve never seen before.
Explorers, the flow of the river calls to us all and together we answer.

For this campout, we’ll call Camp Lotus our home base. We have a large group campsite, and have set aside some cabins for families. We’ll have all the lovely amenities of our other summer campouts: structured activity time, unstructured hanging out time, campfire cooking, and story time under the stars. This year though, as part of our structured activity time, we’ll have teams of explorers adventuring down the river on Saturday and Sunday. As we have a limited number of rafts and guides, these teams will be split up, so some people will remain at camp while the others head out.
If you are someone who is excited to camp but doesn’t want to go rafting, that’s fine, just indicate this on the registration form. If there are more people who want to raft than there are seats on boats, we'll reserve spots on a first come first serve basis.
Due to the logistics around how many people we can take on the river, we’re limiting the number of explorers on this trip who want to raft. As with all of our overnight trips, this is also intended for people who have previously attended at least one Explorers Guild event. If you want to go rafting and you haven’t been out with us before you can come out to Rodeo Beach with us on July 21st.
Camp Lotus is a car camping experience, which means the campsite is a short walk from the car. The site boasts sinks, toilets, and showers. It’s along the river, so unstructured time for people can include the joys of engaging with water however you like.
Cost of the trip is $105, which will go to: campsite cost, food, rafting supplies, and (if you aren’t an official member yet) a 2024 Explorers Guild membership. If you are a subscriber to our Patreon, congrats! You’re already a member and the cost to you is $100.
Have you read everything and still want to come out with us? Wonderful! Each person who wants to attend will need to register. Again, we expect this event to fill up, so don’t delay too long.

Rodeo Beach
Also, just a reminder that this Sunday (July 21st) is our next outing to Rodeo Beach. This event structure is primarily focused on hanging out by the beach and doing micro explorations but we’ll include a trek along the beach to move our legs a bit. All are welcome, and this is particularly accessible for families.
