Hello Explorers!

As promised last week, our springtime flurry of activities is about to go into action. With our SFO Museum trip full up, we’re looking ahead to our offering of the Plant Forager badge workshop on April 19th. You’ll find the call to adventure and registration information below.

If you are someone who wants to look even further ahead, May 3rd will see us pairing up with the SF Microscopical Society. This event will be midday in Oakland, with more details coming soon.

Plant Forager - Sunday, April 19th

Over the years we’ve had more than a few explorers asking what is edible while on a trail hike. In 2018 we hosted an official badge outing, offering people the opportunity to earn our forager badge. Despite how fun it was, we haven’t hosted an event around this activity since. Some of that was due to lockdown, but the other was that our original guide left the state.

Earlier this year a call went out in search of leads to help find someone to guide us once again. Imagine my surprise and delight to find a couple explorers excited to lead us on this adventure. Skyraker and Binary have volunteered to lead our exploration to learn about the native forgeable plants of the Bay Area.

Join us on April 19th at Skyline Park in Napa as we seek out a better understanding of the plant life around us. The park has a native garden and a variety of trails of differing difficulties. Those who accomplish the tasks will earn themselves a forager badge.

Our starting time will be 12pm, with the expedition lasting around 2 hours. Space is limited so you’ll need to make sure and sign up ASAP. As the park is primarily accessible by cars, we’ll be encouraging people to carpool together.

What to bring: Comfortable walking shoes, water, personal snacks, jaunty hat

Organization around transportation and planning logistics will take place in our #0419-forager-badge Slack channel.

This event will focus around the native plant garden, though there are hiking trails to be explored by those wanting more adventure after our structured event time.
