dear internet,

yesterday, i was sitting in the verandah when i heard the crackling sound i have learnt to associate with electrical fire. i am an anxious person with several unfortunate prior experiences of electrical fire, so of course i immediately peered from the window to see what was happening, but i couldn't spot anything, i could only hear that sharp, sparky sound that seemed to be moving faster than fire should. i watched as our watchman and neighbours looked outside too. just as i was ready to pull on a mask and walk down the road to investigate, we all saw a man come into view, trailing in his wake a very small boy on a very rattling tricycle with a very loose wheel. the world is mostly always on fire, but sometimes it isn't.
