dear internet,

today at 6am we drove down to the spot we've gone a couple times before. the first time it was all reeds and mud that squelched underfoot, and as i moved to follow the tiniest birds a hare hopped out of my way. the second time everywhere we'd walked was water, now; the lake spilled across the road and we watched weaver-birds flock to telephone wire. we listened to evermore on our way this morning, and as we turned into the road that had become familiar i stopped midway through 'long story short'. cows clustered on the roads, and a group of monkeys turned their heads to watch us pass. the lake had contained itself once more. lapwings shouted yeahbutdidyoudoit? from rocks and overhead. as we watched a bee-eater swoop towards the water, a blur of bright blue, bright green, bright yellow, we heard music blaring from a distant church: hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah. once in a while it's okay to make things mean more than they should.
