everything else: may
dear internet,
lately i have enjoyed cleaning out my bathtub drain with an old toothbrush; and when i tried on a new perfume and ten minutes later was convinced someone was bursting fireworks but in fact it was my skin that smelt of smoke and ash; and outdoors at the cafe when we pretended to be moomins; and the crumbly bread with sundried tomatoes that my flatmate brought home from work. there’s a robin at the english department that likes to sit on bike handlebars and sing; there was a baby in the lecture theatre with whom i played peekaboo; and when you walk down the streets the air is hot and filled with the sound of birds. i read out a favourite poem to a group of people i don’t know very well. on may 19 i wrote on my notes app, “with distance anything can become funny but it’s harder when you’re in the middle of things”, and i no longer remember what i was talking about. when i take a bus past places i’ve been before i still look at my phone so a moving target on a map can tell me where i am.
love,
t
