valentine to the iphone notes list of food i ate in spain ("smoked sardine avocado toast, eggplant with honey, vermouth"), valentine to the nightingale singing from the roof of the english department, valentine to the couple in front of us doing the nyt spelling bee on their respective phones before the opening act, valentine to the group chat, valentine to the voice note, valentine to the sun on my face through the coarse grey curtains in the library, to the tangerine peel browning on my windowsill, to 6pm church bells, to the microwave lasagna from the cheap grocery store, to my grandmother texting me good night every single night, to the day we washed the windows, to the ginger-scented handwash we can't stop buying, to the neighbour i hear from my bathroom who's always a little sharp when practising her scales, to the rabbits and the blackbirds and yes even the pigeons, to my open tabs, to my pencil sharpener i've had for a decade, to 3-in-1 coffee and playlists on repeat and every time i send you a letter instead of doing anything else. i love you. i'm glad i exist.
