what's up music lovers? it’s so freaking hot. even at night. i think i can rustle up a few recs for you, bear with me.

pure magic from the dutch duo. if you aren't familiar with jonny nash, his pair of gentle guitar LPs point of entry (2023) and once was ours forever (2025) are among the finest mellow records in my collection; both in heavy rotation usually played one after the other. immaculate healing music. here he is joined by tomo katsurada, formerly of kikagaku moyo. together, they push the gentle soothing guitar palette of nash's previous work just a bit further, still as all embracing and warm but with more diverse terrain. if the previous pair of LPs is a glide above infinite grassy plains, this one is a cruise through a dense jungle, serene but full of wonders.  whatever it takes to get you to press play. just wonderful music. 

detente - 2006

i guess we're doing gentle guitar today. what to say about detente. the french producer is a bit hard to pin down. here we have a collection of heart aching instrumental guitar. the style owes to emo, the intricate kind, and it’s not far off from hearing a skilled guitarist noodling in the other room but like on his previous album 'ghosts', every single moment is bursting with emotion, and mostly the same teary melancholy. do check out ghosts. a fantastic record with a bit of a more diverse palette. see also the scattershot remixes of the project, including a recent EP that stretches the gentle tracks into mid 90s styled jungle tunes. a thrilling artist to follow, and he doesn't disappoint here. 

pugilist - found sound

lovely debut LP from pugilist. i had always respected pugilist, but his output was usually a bit too dry, a bit too heady, a bit too sound design to slot into my sets or even my regular listening. i put off listening to this album for a while, assuming it'd be too self serious, too dull, but instead he has put together a lovely undulating collection of tracks drawing from various corners of mid 90s early 00s electronica. it plays a bit like a mixtape, with different tones and textures poking out. a bit jazzy at times, a gentle sprinkling of vintage cheese, but always with heavy bass and exotic atmospheres. highly recommend.
