Tokenized Cash Goes Mainstream as 90% of Large Firms Adopt It | ethereum.miami

ETH traded at $2,366.29 on Wednesday, up 2.3% over 24 hours on a market cap of $289.1 billion. Volume held steady at $9.6 billion as broader crypto markets rode a rebound in tech equities, fueled by a sevenfold profit surge at SK Hynix and renewed optimism ahead of a Fed decision.

Tokenized Cash Hits a Tipping Point

Nearly 90% of large businesses are either using or actively planning to use tokenized cash instruments for payments, according to a new report from DBS, Singapore's largest bank. Stablecoins lead adoption at 63%, followed by tokenized deposits at 53% and tokenized money market funds at 52%. The data signals that enterprise treasury operations are moving well past the pilot phase and into production infrastructure.

The findings land at a moment when tokenization platforms are expanding aggressively. Securitize announced integration with the Stellar blockchain at Meridian 2026, the Stellar Development Foundation's annual conference in Portugal. The move adds another settlement rail for institutional tokenization, a market Securitize has been building toward since its early work tokenizing BlackRock's BUIDL fund.

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev offered a counterpoint from the regulatory side. Tenev warned that tokenized equities in the U.S. need more than a temporary SEC exemption to attract serious issuers. Without permanent clarity, he argued, the assets that would benefit most from tokenization (equities, bonds, real estate) will stay on the sidelines. The criticism reflects a persistent gap between institutional appetite and regulatory frameworks.

Coinbase Vendor Breach Exposes Customer Data

Coinbase confirmed that an incident at analytics vendor Amplitude exposed contact information for a "small subset" of customers. The exchange did not specify how many users were affected but emphasized that its own systems were not breached and that no customer funds were at risk. The distinction matters: the vulnerability sat in a third-party analytics pipeline, not in Coinbase's core infrastructure.

The disclosure came the same day South Korean exchange Bithumb reported a separate breach of its internal employee mobile system. Bithumb said the compromised system is separate from its trading platform but has not yet confirmed whether customer data was exposed. Two other South Korean financial firms reported breaches in the same window, suggesting a coordinated campaign targeting the country's financial sector.

Datavault AI Collapses After Losing Access to Its Own Bitcoin

Datavault AI stock fell 50% after the company disclosed it cannot withdraw bitcoin held on exchange Biconomy. The accounting correction will cut reported assets by $92.2 million at the end of 2025. The problem traces back to a deal with Scilex, under which Scilex agreed to purchase $150 million in Datavault shares payable in bitcoin. A company built around a bitcoin treasury strategy that cannot access its bitcoin is a cautionary case study in counterparty risk.

Brazil's Largest Bank Formalizes Crypto Brokerage

Itaú Unibanco, Brazil's biggest lender, notified the country's central bank of its crypto trading and custody operations on Tuesday, becoming the first Brazilian bank to formalize a crypto brokerage under new regulations. The notification came ahead of an Oct. 30 deadline. Brazil has moved faster than most large economies in building a regulatory framework for bank-operated crypto services, and Itaú's entry puts institutional-grade infrastructure behind one of Latin America's most active retail crypto markets.

Ripple's RLUSD Gets Investment-Grade Ratings

Moody's assigned RLUSD, Ripple's stablecoin, an A2 long-term and P-1 short-term rating, citing credit quality and the market value of its reserve assets. Investment-grade ratings from a legacy credit agency remain rare for stablecoins. The rating puts RLUSD in a narrow class of stablecoins that can meet institutional compliance requirements, a practical prerequisite for the enterprise adoption DBS's data suggests is already underway.

Bitcoin Steadies Above $80K

Bitcoin held above $80,000 as U.S. spot ETFs pulled in $286 million over two days, narrowing October's net outflows to $26 million. Morgan Stanley strategist Mike Wilson said most of the correction is likely behind the market, pointing to a potential move toward $82,000. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index sat at neutral. Historical patterns show both bitcoin and the S&P 500 tend to produce positive returns in the year following U.S. midterm elections, though bitcoin's cycle also aligns with four-year halving rhythms, making it difficult to isolate the political catalyst.

Magic City Update

The DBS report on enterprise tokenization should land with particular force in Miami, where the convergence of real estate capital and blockchain infrastructure has created one of the densest concentrations of tokenization activity in the U.S. Homebase, the Miami-based real estate tokenization platform, has been at the center of that thesis, enabling fractional ownership of rental properties on-chain. The DBS finding that 52% of large firms are adopting tokenized money market funds suggests that the financial plumbing Miami-based projects have been building for years is now attracting exactly the institutional capital it was designed for.

Tenev's warning about regulatory uncertainty also resonates locally. Miami's ambitions as a crypto capital depend in part on federal clarity around tokenized securities. The city attracted a wave of crypto firms between 2021 and 2024 with favorable local policy, but the next phase of growth, tokenizing equities and real estate at scale, requires the kind of permanent regulatory framework that Tenev argued is still missing. Builders in Wynwood and Brickell are watching Washington as closely as they watch on-chain metrics.
