Ethereum's Glamsterdam Fix Clears Path for 200M Gas Blocks | ethereum.miami

A last-minute software patch to one of Ethereum's main validator clients kept the Glamsterdam upgrade on track ahead of its Sepolia testnet run, which will push block capacity to 200 million gas. The fix landed hours before the test, a tight margin for an upgrade that represents Ethereum's largest single capacity increase in years.

Glamsterdam Gets Its Emergency Patch

The Glamsterdam upgrade targets a step-change in Ethereum's throughput by raising the gas limit per block to 200 million, roughly tripling the current effective ceiling. Before the Sepolia testnet deployment could proceed, developers discovered an issue in one of the major validator clients and pushed a corrective update with only hours to spare.

The episode highlights the operational reality of coordinating software across multiple independent client teams. A bug in any single implementation can stall or compromise a network-wide upgrade. That the fix shipped in time is a credit to the client teams; that it was needed at all is a reminder of how thin the margins can be.

A successful Sepolia test would clear the path toward mainnet deployment, bringing lower per-transaction costs and higher throughput that L2 rollups and high-frequency DeFi protocols stand to benefit from most directly.

EEZ Tests Atomic Cross-Layer Transactions

Separately, the EEZ project completed a 0.001 ETH atomic transaction between Ethereum L1 and an L2 rollup, a proof of concept for unifying the network's fragmented execution layers. The project is building a framework to let mainnet and its rollups settle assets in a single atomic step rather than through the current patchwork of bridges and waiting periods.

If the approach scales, it could reduce one of Ethereum's persistent friction points: the time and trust assumptions required to move value between L1 and rollups like Arbitrum or networks built on StarkWare's technology.

Ondo Opens a Door to Private Markets

Ondo Finance launched tokenized notes offering exposure to private companies, starting with an unnamed pre-IPO artificial intelligence firm. The product targets eligible investors who want liquid access to venture-stage companies without the traditional lockup structures of private equity.

The launch positions Ondo alongside firms like Securitize in the race to tokenize assets beyond public equities and government debt. Ondo's existing business sits largely in tokenized Treasuries. Moving into private markets is a meaningful expansion of scope and risk profile.

Spiko Raises $90M for Tokenized Cash Funds

Spiko closed a $90 million Series B to scale its tokenized cash fund platform, which already manages $2.7 billion. The round will fund expansion into new geographic markets.

Tokenized money market funds have become the RWA category with the clearest product-market fit. Investors get onchain yield from short-duration government debt without leaving the blockchain rails. Spiko's $2.7 billion AUM puts it among the larger players alongside BlackRock's BUIDL fund and Franklin Templeton's onchain offerings.

FinCEN Kills the $10K Self-Custody Reporting Rule

FinCEN withdrew two proposed rules that would have required reporting on crypto transactions over $10,000 sent to private wallets, along with a related proposal targeting crypto mixers. Neither rule had taken effect, but both had loomed over self-custody advocates and privacy-focused developers for years.

The withdrawal removes a significant regulatory overhang. The proposals, first floated during the previous administration, drew sharp criticism for treating self-custody transfers like cash smuggling. Their quiet death reflects a broader shift in how U.S. regulators are approaching crypto oversight.

CFTC vs. SEC: The Turf War Continues

Better Markets, a financial reform advocacy group, argued that the CFTC is the wrong agency to oversee retail crypto trading. The group said the CFTC's proposed framework for bringing certain crypto exchanges under its purview would leave investors with weaker protections than the SEC provides.

The jurisdictional debate has simmered for years. The CFTC regulates derivatives and commodities with a lighter disclosure framework. The SEC imposes more stringent registration and investor protection requirements. Which agency prevails will shape compliance costs for exchanges like Coinbase, Binance, and Kraken for years to come.

Bitcoin Keeps Hitting a Wall at $87K

Bitcoin was rejected at $87,000 for the third time since September 23, falling back to roughly $85,600. FxPro analysts warned that a drop below $84,000 could hand control to sellers and put $80,000 in play. The slide came as U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs shed $90 million after two consecutive days of inflows.

Binance's BTC reserves fell by nearly 40,000 coins since September 20, the largest outflow since mid-2023. At the same time, whales deposited stablecoin capital back into their exchange wallets, a pattern that sometimes precedes buying but can also signal repositioning for volatility.

Bitcoin now trades 32% below its October 2025 all-time high of $126,000. By historical standards, the drawdown is shallow: past bear markets have seen 77% to 85% declines from peak.

ETH Flat as Upgrade Anticipation Builds

ETH traded at $2,713.11, down 0.14% over 24 hours, with a market cap of $331.4 billion and daily volume of $11.0 billion. The price action reflects broader crypto malaise rather than anything Ethereum-specific. The Glamsterdam upgrade, if it clears testnet without further issues, could serve as a catalyst, though the mainnet timeline remains unconfirmed.

Hong Kong Sets End-2026 Deadline for Crypto Licensing

Hong Kong regulators doubled down on their plan to finalize a comprehensive crypto licensing regime by end of 2026. The framework will cover four categories: digital asset trading, custody, advisory, and management services.

The deadline creates a clear timeline for exchanges and custodians operating in Asia. Hong Kong has positioned itself as the regulated alternative to Singapore and Dubai, and a completed framework would give it a structural advantage in attracting institutional capital to the region.

ZachXBT Spent $350K of His Own Money to Hunt Lazarus Launderers

Onchain investigator ZachXBT disclosed that he fronted $349,700 of personal funds to infiltrate an alleged Chinese laundering network tied to North Korea's Lazarus Group and the $1.5 billion Bybit hack. Posing as a client, he gathered intelligence that helped freeze stolen funds.

The operation underscores how much of crypto's law enforcement gap is filled by independent researchers rather than government agencies. ZachXBT's willingness to put significant personal capital at risk to pursue state-sponsored theft says something about both the investigator and the institutional vacuum.

Solana Targets Institutional Settlement

The Solana Foundation launched DvP (Delivery versus Payment), an open-source settlement program designed to let financial institutions complete asset transfers and payments in seconds. The product targets the same TradFi settlement market that Ethereum-based projects have pursued through tokenized securities and RWA platforms.

Competition for institutional settlement rails is intensifying across chains. Ethereum's advantage remains its depth of liquidity and issuer adoption, but Solana's raw speed gives it a plausible pitch to institutions that prioritize finality over composability.

Miami Scene: RWA Tokenization Heats Up in the Magic City

Ondo's launch of tokenized private-market exposure and Spiko's $90 million raise both carry implications for Miami's growing cluster of RWA-focused firms. Homebase, the Miami-based real estate tokenization platform, operates in the same tokenization trend line, bringing fractional property ownership onchain for residential investors in South Florida and beyond.

Miami's position as a tokenization hub has strengthened through 2026 as regulatory clarity and institutional appetite converge. Securitize, which maintains a significant Miami presence, continues to expand its issuance platform for tokenized funds. The city's density of crypto-native legal, compliance, and development talent makes it a natural base for firms building at the intersection of traditional assets and blockchain rails.

With Glamsterdam poised to cut Ethereum's transaction costs, Miami-based builders working on tokenized real estate, structured products, and private credit stand to benefit directly. Lower gas fees reduce the friction that has historically made small-denomination tokenized assets uneconomical to trade onchain. For a market like Miami, where tokenized condo fractions and rental income streams are already being piloted, cheaper execution could be the difference between proof of concept and real scale.
