the very first EOS newsletter!
Dear Friends,
This is my very first newsletter since I published Essence of Software. So a warm welcome!
I've been waiting to send this first newsletter until I had something good for you, so here it is: a summary that distills the whole book into a few pages. I'll put this out there in a while but wanted to send it to you first, and see if you had any feedback.
Some other things that might be of interest:
-
A sample "concept catalog entry" that I wrote for the Upvote concept. My dream is to have a handbook, with an entry like this for each concept---or maybe a handbook for each domain.
-
The recording of my ACM Tech Talk, in case you missed it.
-
A forum post about how concepts relate to conceptual modeling.
-
A forum discussion that I started about Andrew Hinton's very thought-provoking book Understanding Context.
-
Answers to 60 or so questions I was asked at the ACM Tech Talk. (Am I crazy? That was fun, but it did take a full day.)
-
A game I started in which someone presents some functionality they can't make any sense of, and someone else explains the concepts behind it. No takers yet on this one, but some fellow seekers hoping to be enlightened.
That's it for now. Let me know what you'd like to see in these occasional newsletters. I'd like to hear from you. And do consider reviewing the book if you've read it; my goal was that this book would start an important conversation and I hope you'll be part of it.
Best wishes,
Daniel
