Sorry to vanish on you for the last six months. There was a death in the family, and this project went on hiatus. I'm back, though, with a report on the first weeks of the second pandemic school year.

Here's how it starts:

That terrible grinding noise you are hearing is the sound of mental gears being stripped across the country. A few months back, all of this pandemic stuff was supposed to be over and it even seemed possible the nation might be falling in love with a Democratic president. We took off our masks and started making plans for the summer and for the future of our society.

Then, the delta variant reared its head and Kabul fell and everything went to shit.
