Essays of Otto for January 10, 2021
Hello all, and happy January!
Just kidding, there is never anything happy about January, and this year even less so. “The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity,” indeed.
As during last summer’s protests for racial justice, I feel somewhat silly offering something off-topic and relatively trivial at a moment of such stark and dire peril to the future of our democracy. These essays do take a week or so to lash together, though, so, at the moment, this is all I’ve got.
Today’s essay is a sort of review of New Year’s Eve, which I have long considered one of the worst holidays for reasons that have never been entirely clear, even to me.
Thanks for reading!
