[SC 2.4.4] Grief is change
I am in San Francisco this week, and it got me reflecting on grief.
Grief is change. Twitter is dead, as is the platform in its current state. But also because of it existing: I met up with multiple friends who I met on that platform. I can also draw a straight line being employed at GitHub.
I am speaking at GitHub Universe about the accessibility agent I built there. There are a lot of deaths tied up in this: An amazing, career-defining job killed by Microsoft's misguided ambition, the value of craft, the replacement of labor with automation, a manager who was subsumed by ambition and AI psychosis, etc.
There has also been the death of identity. I think we're all feeling it, and are all currently in different stages in grief. Sometimes multiple overlapping stages for different deaths, large and small.
I can carry forward the friendships and relationships I want to preserve. That's change. I have a new set of challenges to work through, and those opportunities are also change. I have a manager who listens to me and understands what I'm saying. That too is change.
It is tricky—but valuable—to not chose to wallow in grief and instead embrace, and use it. That said: I'm a sad sack who over-intellectualizes their feelings, and you're probably here for links.

**The future of the internet **
"The advent of LLMs gave us even more mass-produced content, polluting the already declining search engine results to the degree that ancient forum threads from 2006 feels more trustworthy than most websites simply for being human-written without any incentive of gathering clicks from internet surfers."

This is very much an inside thought that I thought I'd never voice out loud, but it is a thought that's thematically appropriate to the intro so fuck it: This man closed his heart to accessibility in his grief, and was then changed by LLMs.
