Entropic Thoughts Premium Newsletter #9
Mixed topics: some test code optimisation, text adventures, the NetBSD machine for the five-year old, a guide in compass sighting, making and reading stories, and three recommendations for small games.
We'll try the informal and conversational premium newsletter again. Let me know if I'm barking up the wrong tree!
By the way, a fun fact. Someone asked how much editing I do. The recent article on software failure might be a representative example. I considered it finished, but I still wanted to proof-read it a day before publishing it to see if there was anything subtle wrong with it I had missed. I noticed some oddities that needed editing. In that process, 56 % of the original text was changed, and on top of that the text was expanded by 33 % (mainly adding clarifications and examples). I feel like a bad editor for making the article longer on the final edit.
(I have also started asking domain experts to review drafts of articles. This is always helpful and often results in large amounts of editing. I wish I had a wider network of experts to ask!)
