It's getting colder, what can we do to keep cosy in the current climate?

The Luxury of Energy. It's likely to be a tough winter: what you can do to help in South East London.

Thanks for signing up for this email list! We want to help you to help your clients cope with the instability in energy prices in any way possible. The current situation is the result of over-globalization, and we're combatting it with extreme localism.

We're based in Greenwich and we also cover:

  • Lewisham
  • Bromley
  • Bexley
  • Greenwich

We travel to visit clients who need support in their homes; we run energy cafes for face-to-face support in public places (see below) and we offer phone, Teams, and WhatsApp support as well.

*The Price Cap and what it means for you: *

  • The 'price cap' of £2500 is an average and depends on the size of your home and your energy usage. Some will still pay more than that, and it is still double the average bill of 2021. See more info on the Which? website here
  • We will all get £400 of support for energy bills, every one of us. This will simply be subtracted from our bill amount over the period of October to March. It's £67 in October and £66 per month thereafter until March. This is helpful, but not enough for many households.
  • People paying through pre-payment meters will receive vouchers towards the top-up cost, issued via SMS text, email or post, using the user's registered contact details. Vouchers can be redeemed through their usual payment point.
  • At no point should any of us be asked for bank details, and we should all look out for scammers and warn our colleagues, customers and clients to do the same thing.
  • Tenants who pay for energy costs through their contracts with landlords should also receive the discount: the landlord should pass it on. Any tenant who thinks this isn't working for them about this should contact Ofgem, or contact Selce for some support.
  • People who have higher needs will be eligible for further support and can find out more about it here:
  • The Warm Homes Discount will still apply and will be in addition to the one-off discount above. Find out who is eligible.

South East London Community Energy is a Society of Community Benefit, which is a kind of cooperative. We work with many volunteers to support those in South East London who struggle with bills and energy, and we have never been more needed. We take this seriously, and work as hard as we can under pressured circumstances.  Thank you for working with us, together we can bring some relief to those who are struggling.
