GRANT UPDATE: Insulation grants for homeowners of different income levels
Dear |LNAME|,
I hope you are having a gentle entry into the festive season.
I am writing to let you know about two grants that are available that have broader eligibility criteria and may be able to help you and members of your community where others have not. In this email I will cover:
- How to check if a contractor can legitimately deliver on government grants
- The Great British Insulation Scheme
- Love Lofts
There are 2 other grants available – ECO for insulation and heating system upgrades and The Boiler Upgrade Scheme for heat pumps - which I am not covering in this email. You can read about them here.
And, if you run or are part of a group where you would like us to come and go through the details of what supports are available in a more accessible way, don't hesitate to be in touch.
Warmest wishes, Flavia Bertram
Checking if a contractor is able to legitimately deliver grant-funded works
Many of you will be seeing ads or receiving flyers for free insulation, heating upgrades, solar panels services and will be rightfully wary of the offers. Here are a few tips to be able to check if the ads you see are genuinely and contractors are in fact delivering on the grant schemes currently available through the government:
-
Check if they are on the Trustmark website. All contractors who are delivering on government grants must be registered to this website.
-
Check their ratings and reviews on check-a-trade and trust pilot.
-
Ask your neighbours who have had work done about their experiences.
-
Speak to several contractors from the Trustmark website and make sure that you are comfortable with their communication with you.
Lastly, please let us know about your experiences. This can help us build relationships with the different contractors that are operating in the local area.
The Great British Insulation Scheme
The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS), a grant for homeowners to insulate their homes. What is exciting about recent developments in this grant is that it is not just for households on very low incomes. There are three routes in:
- a fully funded low-income/means tested benefits route
- a fully funded cold-affected medical conditions (no income criteria) route
- a partially funded general route for households with incomes above £31,000 (excluding savings)
After a period of preparation, we are now confident that we can help you and qualifying members of your community access GBIS through an established relationship with a trusted contractor, Greenland Energy, a local Trustmark contractor.
What it offers With a few exceptions to building type, GBIS is able to help households install external wall insulation, cavity, flat roof insulation. And, loft insulation with a thermal programmer, for those on a low-income and with less than 100mm of insulation.
Eligibility Criteria You may be eligible for a grant to pay for your home’s insulation if your house:
- Has as a valid EPC certificate of D or below, AND
- Is in council Tax band A-D, AND
The level of financial support (full or partial) you will receive will be determined based on if your household has an income above or below £31,000 if you are in receipt of means-tested benefits, or if you have any medical conditions that are affected by the cold.
