Google bet I/O on agents. Here is what actually changed for coders this week.
Google bet I/O on agents. Here's what actually changed for coders this week.
Hey — Guy here.
Big week. Google I/O 2026 wasn't a chatbot keynote — it was a coordinated agent stack drop, and the AI coding tools chessboard now has a third major piece sitting next to Anthropic and OpenAI. Pulling out the parts that actually matter if you ship code for a living.
This Week in AI Coding
- Google I/O 2026 went all-in on agents. Gemini 3.5 Flash launched as Google's strongest coding/agent model yet — internal tests claim it built an OS from scratch at ~12x the speed of comparable frontier models. Not a chatbot pitch. An agent pitch.
- Antigravity 2.0 dropped as a standalone desktop app. Parallel agent orchestration, scheduled background tasks, CLI. This is Google's direct answer to Claude Code's terminal-native loop and Cursor's IDE agent — and it ships under the new $200/mo AI Ultra tier. The flat-rate era really is over.
- Gemini Spark is the first "general-purpose agent" Google has shipped. Reasons across your connected apps, takes actions. Beta to trusted testers + AI Ultra subs first. Same playbook as Claude's computer use and Operator — Google now has a candidate too.
- WebMCP proposed as an open standard — browser-based agents calling structured tools, experimental origin trial in Chrome 149. MCP is officially the connector layer of this generation. Worth understanding even if you're not building agents yet.
- Agent Development Kit hit stable 1.0 across Python, Go, Java, TypeScript. A2A (agent-to-agent) and MCP are now both production-grade. If you've been waiting for the agent protocol stack to settle before building — it just did.
- GitHub Copilot Pro/Pro+ paused new sign-ups, moving to usage-based billing June 1. Read that again. Microsoft is killing the buffet for the same reason Anthropic and Cursor already did — agents are expensive, flat-rate doesn't survive contact with autonomous coding loops.
- GitHub Copilot CLI 1.0.51 (May 20) added
--session-idsupport — resume any session, or pin a new one to a UUID. Small change, huge for scripted multi-step workflows.
Tool of the Week — Antigravity 2.0
Honest take after a few days with it: the parallel-agent UX is the best I've seen, full stop. You queue work, agents run in their own sandboxes, you cherry-pick what to merge. It feels like what Cursor's Composer would be if it grew up. Caveat: it's gated behind the $200/mo AI Ultra tier, so it's not a default daily driver yet — but the architecture is where everyone is heading, including Claude Code's recent task primitives. Try it once if you're on Ultra. Watch it even if you're not.
The bigger pattern: every serious coding tool is converging on the same shape — terminal-native, parallel, agent-orchestrated, MCP-connected. The differentiator is shifting from "which model" to "which orchestration layer."
What We Shipped at VeriduxLabs
- EP110–EP113 uploaded to @endofcoding — 8 new shorts/longs, backlog officially cleared. Auto-upload pipeline holding steady at Sun-Thu cadence.
- SPARit jumped to #1 in portfolio traction — +109% week-over-week, Hacker News is now the top referral source. Reminder that one post on the right place still beats a quarter of paid ads.
- CyberOS hit Day 32 retention cliff (-48%) — investigating the activation gap now. If you're running a B2B security tool and you've solved post-trial drop-off, hit reply.
- Weekly billing review surfaced a VPS key-leak in our infra audit — patched same day. Boring ops win, but the kind that compounds.
