watching mind and body (and we're off to Substack))
Coming back to mindfulness basics is always a great thing.
Knowing that whatever is happening for us is happening through the body and the mind always gets me grounded again.
The mind will often win out because culturally, we are living in an intellectual world. We reason stuff out, we figure stuff out and the industrial foundations of our education and modern culture are based on input and output, engineering and efficiency. We have tuned our minds towards the problem and the problem solving.
So when we get caught up in something it’s no surprise, right? So what do we do? How can we remind ourselves that when we are caught up, it’s not necessarily useful but it is what’s happening. Observe the quality of your inner questioning; are you thinking something like “is this the right thing for me?” and where that takes you. The thoughts themselves are harmless but it’s the context that counts.
If your thoughts are being fuelled or fed by frustration or fear, then the vibe will most likely be ‘negative’ or protection/defence-based, because it’s coming from the protective part of the brain. Is it possible to take a step back from that and notice what ‘energy’ that thought is touching. If it feels a bit yuk and protective then see if you can flip that. Ask yourself, what might be useful, can you use that energy in a way that supports you? Just ask the question, see what happens.
Announcement!
I am moving my blog to Substack. It’s a write-friendly platform and so next time you will hear from me will be through Substack. There will be more opportunity for me to add photos, etc, so I’m looking forward to that. If you do not wish to be part of this mailing list any more then please unsubscribe :-). I know what it’s like to be getting emails I don’t need or have time for. All good, no judgement.
Have a lovely weekend
