the advance of trance
This has been flying around in my mind since I was a kid, when I used to sit on a tractor for hours on end listening to music, doing nothing but driving up and down in a field in straight lines for 10 hours a day. Doing a job but the main focus was being there. Or sitting on a beach listening to the waves - to take my mind somewhere else.
And so we all always do trance - from brushing our teeth to filling the kettle to cooking to washing up to driving. We go into trance when we’re meditating, listening to music, singing, playing a instrument, doing exercise, painting - doing any kind of repetitive thing.
I do trance. It’s a thing I’ve done for years and I’m only just beginning to see clearly how useful it is. I did a gig on Saturday and there was something about seeing everyone in the room in some kind of trance, which helped me to see that it’s such a powerful way to tap into a natural process which we all do, but in a healing and enriching way. Words chosen to release and relieve tension causing a different effect for each person.
We are hard wired for trance, it is a ceremonial component, millenia old and celebrated through dance, song, prayer and incantations. It is healthy and we need it in some way. And with music it is even more powerful.
The feedback a Dan and I had from Saturday’s gig was a real eye opener to me - and I learned that we assisted a roomful of people to find a chilled, open, receptive and even healing place in body and mind - felt like such a privilege to be part of.
A few people’s words "was a really beautiful and powerful experience”, “It was glorious”, “It has brought much healing.”
Here’s a clip from myself and Dan’s ‘trance performance’ on Saturday
There will be more and we’re looking forward to evolving this particular vibe.
Have a good one
I’ll be focusing on trance and our own inner ‘imaginative journey’ a lot more from now on.
