get it clear
Just back from a fulfilling weekend mens' retreat and my reflections are on minsdet and attitude - particularly my own. For quite a while there I thought I needed to be a certain type of man to hold space for a group of men. The only way of finding that out was by challenging whatever belief I had about that. Or was it? From there I started to see, once again, a little more clearly that we are architects of our inner world, we create our limitations, how we see ourselves and how we allow others to see us.
Learning how to change your world means shifting your language in order to change 'wants' into 'being'. After this weekend I saw the power of one experience to shift my want into being - and the difference is great and I realised that I don't actually need to run a whole retreat in order to shift that - the mind is incredibly flexible and ready to move at any time.
I came across the idea of 'cognitive rehearsal' lately, in the Rapid Resolution Therapy world. I think it might be a little bit like prayer was intended to be and it is a lot like intention setting. It's what athletes do to see themselves winning. Anxiety also inspires us to do this. When we are anxious about something or someone, we often rehearse negative situations, imagining the worst is going to happen and therefore putting ourselves 'on the back foot' or in a defensive position. We make that happen.
However, if we imagine some small wins and rehearse them every day, the results can be powerful and transformative - watch this space.
I'm very happy to say that the Rapid Resolution Therapy sessions I'm doing are proving popular and people are finding ways to easily and painlessly move beyond their own blocks by doing it. I'm so grateful to be able to help people in this way. Have a look here https://endless-river.org/rapid-resolution/
And to finish, here's a comment from Luke, one of the attendees of this weekend's retreat - "The weekend proved to be a transformative and rejuvenating experience for me. Through the process I was really able to reconnect deeply with my positive child like feeling of wonder and joy in the world. The conversations and connection shared with the other men in the group also proved extremely useful in sharing, testing and developing ideas. Alan's ability to frame and lead the experience, weaving storytelling, creativity and joy into the retreat it is just fantastic. I believe this type of experience and journey to be extremely useful to all men and in particular those seeking a deeper connection to themselves, nature and their fellow men"
