I've always been disappointed by TV. So I thought it's time to make a metaphor to diss it once and for all. It's a fun thing to do, anyway. Sorry if you like TV.
It's that sheen of clean, smiley faces and entertainment factor. I think I liked it as a kid but as soon as I was old enough, I saw what I considered the fakeness of it all. That probably says more about my state of mind at the time, than anything! Cheap looking studio sets, alongside the TV smiles and tech-based quackery became a puzzlement to me.
It's not that I have a problem with escapism, I'm all about that, I want to escape all the time, but TV escapism is an other alien brand of mindfuzzing. So what, you know, it's just people doing stuff. I know, I know but I have to say that there's something in it for me. It's a massive metaphor which is screaming at me right now.
Behind the scenes
Then there's the empty reality of 'behind the scenes'. Behind the scenes is the messy 'mind' of the production, all cables and dark corners, stressy deadlines, coffee stains and take away food. All nicely hidden away.
Editing
Here we have the mess that is made into something 'great'. A presentable fragment of the original experience, packaged, polished and edges sanded down for 'the viewer'.
The Show
The end product, a shiny, smiley, soft and sparkly episode, which is designed to delight and please everyone.

So, it's no wonder we're editing what we say, presenting an acceptable face to society, whilst behind the scenes we're screaming and crying and scared. We learned that stuff from TV!
Or maybe TV learned that from us? Or maybe....society is a giant TV show, with hidden cameras everywhere ala Truman Show?
I try not to be bothered by these things, of course, living perfectly at ease, quietly judging as I sit there with my remote.
Anyway, that was fun to write. Metaphors are fun.
Life is a metaphor, therefore.....
