Anxious to help
I’ve been doing much work around anxiety lately and I feel very close to it. Knowing it’s a dysfunction but one we all have.
Why a dysfunction, though? Shouldn’t it be normal? If everyone has it then why am I calling it a dysfunction?
Mainly because it can stop us from acting, from being in the moment, from enjoying our life and other people, I spose.
Feelings and thoughts running free in our body/minds - upset, confusion, worry, anger - none of it a problem until it becomes one.
I’ve been getting good at framing anxiety for people and helping people turn down the dial of fear. The key for me is that it has to be accepted by both parts of mind - conscious and unconscious. Fear comes from the unconscious, wreaks havoc in the conscious mind and often will just stay there, constantly restimulating itself through thoughts and explanations and quite often an abuse of the one-word question “why?” Why? is like a fuel, it’s like permission to go nuts, to blame, maim and shame. Steer clear of why? when you’re feeling anxious.
Top tip: Anxiety starts in the unconscious and is then experienced in the conscious mind. When you feel it, take a deep, intentional breath in and blow it, accompanied by the word ‘release’. This acts as a command to the ever-vigilant unconscious, telling it to stand down.
Try it! tell me how it went.
Have a good one :-)
