Rockwood Music Hall, Radio, and Really Good Tunes (Emily's First Newsletter!)

Hello to all my sunshiney spring babies!!!

I hope this reaches you as you are defrosting, perhaps even sprouting! I know for me it was a particularly rough winter, and I say that because I've seen a lot of people express similar things, which brings me some small comfort in knowing that we're not alone. Here are some lovely things that have been growing in my garden lately!!

Live from New York (It's Sunday Night)

The most important thing I have to share with you is that this Sunday, 4/10 at 7pm I will be playing live at one of my favorite venues in the city- Rockwood Music Hall Stage One!!! Rockwood Stage One has no cover, which means that tickets for show are free. There is a one drink minimum, and tips are recommended for performers but not required. Here's the fancy official promo photo, as well as a photo of the last time I performed at Rockwood back in 2019!

(Don't wanna be so) Lonely by Girl in the Mirror featuring me!

Two weeks ago a new single I featured on with producer Girl in the Mirror was released through the label We are FOUND!! Definitely a pop star fantasy moment- I honestly don't think I've ever been more in love with my vocals than I am on the chorus of this one!!! An Emily staple in which I mention the moon AND talk about yearning. Classic.

Check it out on Spotify here, or wherever else you stream music!! There's also an incredibly animated lyric video on YouTube here!

International Radio Star?? Champion of Making Music?? (NOT clickbait)

It's press time!!!

  1. Most recently, I've had the honor of being chosen as a Make Music Day Champion!! Make Music New York is my favorite day of the year, and I cannot believe I was selected as one of a handful of artists to be selected from the 1000s of participants. I did an interview with Make Music that you can find here!!

  2. Last month, I was the featured guest on QueerFM Vancouver! Since my mom was in town that week, I got to call into the radio station for the interview from a hotel room and felt extremely fancy and famous. You can listen back to it in podcast form here, I had an absolute blast talking with the hosts!!

  3. Lonely also got some press and radio play! It was spun on Out Loud Radio and Eagles Nest Radio, and featured in the publications The Other Side Reviews and Rising Artists Blog!!

Create/Consume

I'm honestly just as excited to share art by others that I've been enjoying as I am excited to share my own art!!

My top three albums of 2022 so far are FKA Twigs' CAPRISONGS, Raveena's Asha's Awakening, and Aurora's The Gods We Can Touch!

For TV, I've been on a bit of a 'shows about terrible people' kick, which means in January I binged all of Succession, February I watched The Boys, and currently my roomies and I are working through The Dropout.

Downloading the Libby app has been a gamechanger for reading with my ADHD, and my favorite books I've read this year are Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata and Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao!

I got really into Dungeons & Dragons during quarantine, and D20's current actual play season of A Starstruck Odyssey is bringing me simply so much joy. I'm playing the journaling game The Magical Year of a Teenage Witch with my partner, and recently got to DM the most wonderful pastoral and idyllic ttrpg Wanderhome.

IN CONCLUSION...

I've wanted to have a newsletter for a while now but have always hemmed and hawed and butted up against my proverbial enemy, perfection, but I've finally accepted that I don't have to get it exactly right and do it the same way every single time. I reread Gretchen Rubin's The Happiness Project as I do nearly every new year, and have been really trying to embrace her Secret of Adulthood which boils down to "most decisions actually require extensive research." So instead of belaboring the task of starting a newsletter by spending hours googling what the exact right hosting site is, or how to do all the fancy formatting exactly right, etc etc etc, I signed up with Button Down because a peer is using this same mailing site, and I am figuring out formatting on the fly. Maybe it'll look completely different next time I write! We'll see!! We're on this journey together.

I'm happy you're here.

Springtidings to you, and an spare umbrella for April showers,

Em
