House for the Holidays Recap

A postcard styled like a holiday card, reading "Happy Holidays from our Keepsake Family", with a photo of all of the performers from the House for the Holidays showcase
Styled like the back of a postcard, the image says "thank you to everyone who came to the Keepsake House fundraiser on Friday!! It was so inspiring to be a part of this talented community!"

Keepsake House has created such a special place and I am beyond excited to continue to perform alongside these incredible songwriters and storytellers next year with some really unique themed showcases.

If you missed it, you can still watch the recording of the livestream here! (I'm on at 51:49!)

Mark your calendars for...

The next Keepsake House showcase (and first official Keepsake House show of my residency) will be Sunday, January 28th from 3-5pm! It will be held at the LGBT Community Center in the West Village. More details to be announced soon, but I do know that there will be dim sum involved, which is hugely exciting.

Faves of the Year

Since 2019 I keep a google spreadsheet in my drive of all the art I consume each year. Here are some of my personal favorites from each category that I highly recommend.

Music

(God what a good year for music. I only listened to 30 new albums this year and it's still so hard to narrow it down, but here's my top 6:)

  1. Age of Pleasure- Janelle Monae

  2. Desire, I want to turn into you - Caroline Polachek

  3. The Secret to Life- FIZZ

  4. the record - boygenius

  5. Something To Give Each Other- Troye Sivan

  6. That! Feels Good! - Jessie Ware

Books

  • The City We Became - NK Jemisin (urban fantasy where five new yorkers suddenly become each borough anthropomorphized and have to battle off a cosmic existential threat to the city)

  • Several People Are Typing - Calvin Kalsuke (a man gets trapped inside of his work slack chat and struggles to return to his body. weird and wonderful)

  • Wintering - Katherine May (a collection of essays on hibernation and rest across time, species, and culture)

Movies/TV/Podcasts

  • Succession (what's to say about this that hasn't already been said. a masterclass in writing and acting.)

  • Good Omens (heaven's most hedonistic angel and hell's most do-gooder demon form a bond that saves the world. captured my heart entirely.)

  • Everything on Dropout.tv tbh (best $6 I pay a month!)

  • Worlds Beyond Number (long-form dnd actual play podcast made by the giants of the industry imo. feel very lucky to be alive at the same time as these prolific storytellers.)

ok thank u for indulging me <3

Out of Office

I closed my commissions today (since I'm booked up til the holidays) and will be back taking new orders on January 5th! I hope to work with you in the new year! If you or someone you know has got a business that needs a jingle, a podcast that needs an theme song, a dnd campaign that needs music, or a partner that deserves a custom love song, you know where to find me :)

I'm glad you're here. The happiest of holiday and new years wishes to you and yours.

muddling through somehow,

Em
