a new era on the horizon...
Hello sunshines,
I'm sorry that it's been a minute!! To be honest I didn't have much going on externally the past few weeks to promote (and too much goin on internally to process), but here we are again! I hope summer has been treating you well.
summer so far
July was full of ups and downs- beach trips and birthday celebrations, bugs and bad sleep schedules. I spent ten days in Florida with my family (somehow escaping the heat wave in NYC to cooler temperatures down here). I ate incredible food, I went to the aquarium, I played a lot of Phase 10, and I read some old journals in the storage closet from my TEENAGE years.
I always forget just how lonely summer can be, y'know? It's always a perfect season in my head, with lofty goals of seeing friends and going on adventures every other day. And then I remember that we all have work schedules and financial constraints.... alas. It's all exacerbated by working from home alone in my room all day, cases on the rise, and the slippery slide of returning to social media. But I've been trying to be more intentional about reaching out and making plans and getting out of the house more, which is definitely helpful.
August has got a good energy to it, I can feel it (I'm seeing Harry Styles this month so nothing can bring me down!!).
#contentcreator
Lately I've been DREAMing up alternative solutions to short-form content, which is not my favorite to make. It's hard to pick and choose 15 seconds of a song or market yourself through a trend and still feel authentic.
I've been tossing around ideas for more long-form content ideas that spark joy- doing a bi-weekly demo project on YouTube where I walk through the songwriting and recording process from start to finish, starting a podcast where I interview my artist friends, vlog-style videos reminiscent of these notes to you, etc.
Yeah, I get it, our attention spans are all shot from the dopamine hits of the constant scroll, but also I do think we need to give ourselves more credit. Most of the content that has resonated with me this year is not the 15 second kind. (30min-1hr long YouTube video essays and commentary, 3 hour long D&D actual play episodes, hour long documentaries, 20 minute vlogs)
Buttttt I'll also be redownloading TikTok for the first time in months to promote the next era...... more on that soon **eyes emoji**
shows shows shows !!
As of right now I've got two gigs coming up this month!! Mark your calendars!!
AUGUST 13th, 8pm- The Local NY (LIC, Queens), no cover charge, no drink minimum
AUGUST 22nd, 9pm- Rockwood Music Hall Stage 1, no cover charge, one drink minimum
It's such a dream to be BACK at these two venues that I love and I hope to see your shining faces there!!!!
new tunes new tunes new tunes
After almost a year and a half OF only dropping collabs, I am more than ready to finally be dropping A single that I've been sitting on for almost that same amount of time!!! It'll likely be dropping in September which is good because it's the perfect vibes for reminiscing on your summer flings. Vibes are: yearning (as always), hot summer nights, lana del rey, reverb on reverb, windows down on a long drive.
I did a photoshoot with a photographer that I've followed on Instagram for years (@rllyblonde) this week and she made me feel like such a star!!! I can't wait to share these photos with you!! We shot half in studio and half in her CAR after the sun went down. The vision that I've harbored for so long is actually coming together better than i could have ever dreamed. Ahhhh!!!
Now I just have to do the worst part of the actual promotional cycle haha (get ready for many 'pre-save link in bio!' posts)
art I've been enjoying:
Speaking of new era's, I'm very excited for The 1975's new album!! Both their singles so far, Part of the Band and Happiness, have been incredible in different ways and I'm so excited to hopefully see them at Madison Square Garden this fall!!
Unsurprisingly, I have also been playing Beyonce's Renaissance on loop since it dropped. I have maybe never heard a more pristine back half of an album before???
Been binge watching Drew Gooden's YouTube videos recently. "The Strangest Story on the Internet", where him and other YouTuber Danny Gonzalez read a bad fanfiction that someone wrote about them, has been making me laugh all month. (Sidenote: bad fanfiction in general is one of my favorite sources of laughs)
The Girl Who Drank The Moon is a gorgeously written fantasy novel and one of the best heart-tugging world-building I've read in a long time.
I got to see Shakespeare in the Park's Richard III which honestly blew my mind in terms of production and direction. (It was also an ASL interpreted performance which made me realize how much I missed signing!!!
It's good to be back. I'm glad you're here.
More soon,
Em
ps the title of the next single is not so subtly hidden in this newsletter hehehehehe
