Thank you to all the writers who submitted!
Greetings!
Hey cool kids and krazy cats! We’re close to escaping the cold weather, and with Spring soon to bloom, eMerge Magazine is emerging in 2025 with an eNewsletter tailor-made for you. Not only will our upcoming issues be published live online, but they will also be emailed to all of our subscribers. (Bonus: It will be easy to bookmark or save in your inbox for continued reading.) We’ll also send you our contest announcements and updates but promise not to barrage you. In a world of information overload, we value your capacity to absorb whatever words pass before you in the time you are able, and we are honored that you’ve read these. Grateful for your readership, we hope you find value in eMerge Magazine and in these new notes.

Letter from the Upcoming Editor
by Aubrey Green
Hello! I am thrilled and deeply grateful to be stepping into this new role as Managing Editor of eMerge. This has always been a home for voices that challenge assumptions and reflect the beautifully complex world we live in; that is even more important now. It’s an honor to be entrusted with continuing this tradition while seeking new ways to amplify those voices and expand the magazine’s reach. [Continue]

Thank you to all the writers who submitted works for our short story contest in honor of Nikki Hanna, a dedicated champion of the written word and writers alike. In her biography, Nikki said, “I’m a metropolitan gal who never quite reached the level of refinement and sophistication that label implies.” Ever since Nikki became acquainted with eMerge, her unwavering support for the literary community has been evident. With multiple award-winning short stories and several impactful books under her belt, including such titles as Red Heels and Smokin’: How I Got My Moxie Back, Listen Up Writer: How Not To Write Like An Amateur, Write Whatever the Hell You Want: Finding Joy and Purpose in Writing, Nikki’s writing has left an indelible mark on the world of storytelling.
Join us in celebrating Nikki Hanna’s legacy when we announce the winning short story in early April!
Podcast
eMerge Unchained with Aubrey Green
"eMerge Unchained" is a dynamic podcast that delves into the creative minds of writers from all walks of life. In each episode, we explore the stories behind the stories—diving into the craft, process, and sources of inspiration that fuel these authors. Whether they’re poets, novelists, screenwriters, or storytellers of any kind, we aim to uncover what keeps them motivated, what challenges they face, and the unique ways in which they unleash their creativity.
In this episode of eMerge Unchained, host Aubrey Green sits down with emerging writer Joyce Goforth-Hanewinkel, whose journey into writing started as an escape and quickly turned into a passion. With four contest wins, three published pieces, and a novel on the way, Joyce shares how a daily writing challenge led to her first big break and opened the door to the literary community.
