Practices to support your life
View this email in your browser
Hello!

It's been a while since I dropped in over here to say hi! I hope this finds you well and enjoying the fluidity of summer with longer days and a bit more spontaneity in your life.

I love the more playful aspects of summer, the break from the monotony of the "normal" schedule of the school year, and the massive amounts of time spent outside. However, along with this, I also notice a slow unfurling of regularity in things that begins to create mild chaos in my life... variable camp pick-up & drop-off times means my morning "routine" (if you can call it that with 3 children in the house!) is in flux day-to-day and week-to-week; the shuffling of things from purse to pool bag to backpack back to purse means that I've lost my glasses, a keepsake necklace, and my driver's license (resulting in waiting in 2 lines just to get to into the main line at the DMV)... you get the idea.

What's interesting, though, is that when I'm able to practice noticing (and then dropping) resistance to the moment*, I find myself in a more fluid state, moving from moment to moment, responding versus reacting to what's in front of me in any given moment. It doesn't change the external realities but it does change my relationship to them. I feel more at ease, more vibrant. It frees up so much more energy to do the things I wish to do and that I know support me from a self-care perspective. So much more is possible.

AND, when I'm not practicing, well that's not such a lovely picture. I'm agitated, I do a heck of a lot of blaming others and pointing fingers, I can't see a path forward, I get really depleted, I pretty much halt all things related to my personal wellness, and I most certainly forget that I am choosing how to be in relationship to the things in life. Everything is impossible.

It struck me, while watching Mary Poppins Returns with my twins this weekend, that this amazingly magical fictional character maybe knows what she's talking about when she says "Everything is possible. Even the impossible." With a shift of perception, a change of perspective, and a recognition of the fact that we are, quite literally, shaping our reality by how we learn to be in relationship to it, we begin to realize that what we once thought was impossible is, in fact, possible.

Can you notice where and when and how you are resisting life?

Can you begin, even with the very small things, to soften your resistance?

Notice what it allows you to do, feel, think.

Notice how it creates possibility where there was once impossibility.

And let me know how it goes.

, Ellie

Fall
Dates:

9/9, 9/23, 10/7, 10/21, 11/4, 11/18, 12/2, 12/16

Meditation is a state of being. We practice by sitting down, getting quiet and learning how to harness and direct our attention, waking us up to the full experience of the life again and again. As a result, we begin to actually be IN life, experiencing it fully. Seated practice allows us to learn about ourselves, about these wonderful and wild minds of ours, and about our humanness. Seated practice can provide us with the space to feel a deeper sense of wellbeing, vitality, and groundedness.

Join me for a donation-based meditation practice every-other-Monday evening from 7:15-8pm. The practice will include 35-40 minutes of semi-guided meditation and 5-10 minutes for guidance at the end of the sit.

Suggested donation range: $5-$20
Participants will need to complete a waiver and can do so here, in advance, or upon arrival.
