"Our difficulties are not obstacles to the path. They are the path itself."
{Ezra Bayda}
I often see major similarities in what my coaching clients are working on in their lives and those often coincide with what I am navigating in my own life. Sometimes I have just made it to the other side of some kind of challenge, just in time to understand a different perspective that I can share with clients. Other times, I am especially attentive to "trends" I see in my clients lives because I've learned that, if I haven't already, I'll most likely face something similar pretty darn soon...
One thing I've noticed lately is the belief that we should constantly be in a state of THRIVING. That we should be bounding, ever-so-lightly, from moment to moment full of ease, ready to receive what comes, and downright nailing anything and everything that we put effort towards. We should be well rested, fully (but not overly) nourished with not just healthy but perfectly photographable food, energetically knocking out exercise on the daily, perfectly balanced social and home lives, and receiving abundant opportunities to grow in our work. Well, I'll tell you what... I'm calling B.S. on that one. I'm pulling the plug on the social media-inspired fantasy that is actually creating a whole lot of suffering within a whole lot of wonderful, amazing, inspiring people who ARE actually thriving but are questioning every second of their experiences (and, thus, missing the moments of thriving along the way).
The truth is: true THRIVING includes lots of time spent SURVIVING. That's right -- paying the bills, tending to kids, meal planning and grocery shopping (AGAIN), cleaning the bathroom, washing and folding the laundry, tending to all the admin tasks of your work that you'd rather avoid, scheduling dental appointments... you get the idea. It's not super pretty, doesn't usually capture aesthetically well for those Instagram posts, isn't usually exciting or stimulating, often absorbs more of our time than we would wish. However, this is it - these things are the foundation of the rest of it. Without time spent surviving, we don't have the capacity to thrive. Without bringing both levity and purpose into what we do to survive, I believe it's impossible to feel a sense of purpose and power when we are thriving. And, to view surviving as being directly in opposition to a thriving, fulfilled life, we are missing precisely what we are seeking. "Our difficulties are not obstacles to the path. They are the path itself." {Ezra Bayda}
With all of that in mind, I am super excited to announce that I'll be kicking off a new group immersion in late fall/early winter which dives into just these things! The program will include weekly group video calls, home practices, and some 1:1 coaching with me. Drop me an email if you'd like to be first to know more!
, always.
