For the past several months, I've really struggled to get consistently healthy sleep. For those of you who know my history, sleep has become a fundamental priority in my physical and mental health and wellbeing. And, for the obvious reasons (global pandemic, civil unrest around racial inequities, watching the continued radicalization of politics) as well as the less obvious (thank you, toddler, for deciding that waking up multiple times a night for months on end is the coolest thing ever!), my sleep has gotten really out of whack. That is, until the past few weeks...

I built some serious evening “rituals” around sleep, my partner stepped up to manage most all of the night time wakings, and I recruited the support of melatonin on an as needed basis. And, bam! I’ve had the most solid, sound sleep - like 8-9+ hours per night, people! - I’ve had in a long time. A total game-changer… right?

 

Nope. I mean, getting good sleep is never bad. But I’ve been waiting to feel the surge of energy, the restful nervous system vibe, the easy-to-wake in the morning kind of feelings to return. But they haven’t. 

 

Because here’s the thing - just like our whole-selves need cultivation and fulfillment in many ways and dimensions - we need REST in those places too. According to Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith, "we go through life thinking we've rested because we have gotten enough sleep -- but in reality we are missing out on the other types of rest we desperately need." She outlines the 7 types of rest that are “essential for human flourishing.”

 

What she presents isn’t necessarily “new” to me but it is 100% affirming in something I was sensing all along. Without the time or space to both cultivate and nourish/rest the many components of my life these past several months, I’ve become depleted and fatigued in ways much bigger and broader than physical rest. I’m certain I’m not alone in this experience (as I extend a loving and knowing wink out to all of you!).

 

I hope you will join me in these next several weeks and months to become more intentional about the places in which you aren’t resting. And commit to carving out the time and space to both grow AND nourish those parts of yourself. Let me know how it goes.

I am so excited about this offering as it will allow me to provide more of what I love to more people and grow a community of support for like-hearted people who are out there doing the work of creating meaningful, authentic, and intentional lives. As many of you already know, choosing a more conscious way of living can, ironically, feel somewhat lonely and isolating. But it doesn't have to!

I will be accepting applications through January 22nd (or until I reach max capacity) and we'll be convening on January 30th to kick off our year together!

A Year of Intention is the result of my own process of reckoning with all that 2020 has given, taken away, and required of us. 


A Year of Intention is also my answer to the question that I hear more and more from students and clients, alike - "where is the community of others who get this work, this way of being in relationship to life?" This path can often feel lonely because others in our life don't understand it... and this is my way of helping to grow a connected community of others who are exploring a space beyond what's "possible," who are in an inner work, who have the wish to go deeper, to wonder, and to view themselves and their lives with curiosity.

Now, as we begin a new year, new decade, new era, new frontier, we have the opportunity of a lifetime to consider who we want to be and how we want to experience our lives. We have the hopeful possibility of moving into a more whole, more conscious and connected way of living. We can make meaningful and intentional choices about the lives we want to have and that feel more aligned with what we truly value.

This 30-minute guided sit will offer you the opportunity to drop in to the direct experience of the moment, to rest and replenish your nervous system, and to grow awareness of the inner and outer life.
