Even on our "good days," most of us are operating from a system that is depleted and fatigued. In fact, close to 70% of the population is suffering with adrenal fatigue, with their bodies in a constant state of activated stress-response, even if subtly.
When we are in a constant state of stress (even, and perhaps especially, low-grade, unconscious stress) our entire system is jeopardized. We are more likely to get sick, more susceptible to depression and anxiety, and less able to manage and cope with physical, mental, and emotional strain.
Self-care is, ultimately, about resting and restoring the nervous system. What we choose to “feed” ourselves, by way of self-care, ultimately feeds our nervous system and how our nervous system “feels” creates the foundation for how we react to the world around us.
I invite you to watch a short Facebook Live I did the other day exploring this and I also hope that you can begin to get curious about the inner effect the forms of self-care you choose to include in your life.
, always.
