The greatest set-up is telling ourselves that “it” will get easier.
“It” can take many forms… but generally speaking, it is life and all of the contents in it.
We think we are doing ourselves a solid, when the going gets tough, to imagine that this is the worst of it… that once we make it through, it’ll all be easier. Or, at least — we convince ourselves — it won’t be harder than this.
Maybe this is some form of motivation that we think will give us the strength/courage/fortitude/endurance to make it through. And perhaps it does to a certain extent.
But what it also does, even if unintentionally, is set us up for shock/defeat/conflict when something is, in fact, just as hard if not harder.
And, from what I can tell, “it” will at some point most definitely get harder.
What I also know, is that each time we maneuver through the hard parts, we are building an internal knowing that we can and will make it through.
We carry a certain wisdom into the new hard parts that we couldn’t have gained in any other way.
That wisdom is what informs resilience.
That wisdom creates a kind of non-specific map or guidebook that can lead us through from a sturdier and more grounded place within ourselves.
And that sturdiness gives us the more truthful and honest strength we need to navigate what life gives us rather than the fleeting energy or motivation that comes from the false hope of guaranteed ease.
“It” will not get easier. But I promise you that you will meet it with greater strength, greater wisdom, and with more capacity to see possibility. It’s not possible not to.
With Love,

My Annual Wellness Retreat will be October 26-29 at the beautiful Heartstone Lodge, nestled between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Maury River in Buena Vista, Virginia.
All of the private rooms, shared studios, and shared cabins are sold out! There are a couple of sweet dorm bed nooks in the loft of the lodge, a couple of BYO tent / camper van spots, AND -- a new option(!!) -- a handful of "Day Retreat" spots left.
The Day Retreat is an option to stay off-site but to join us for all meals, daily retreat content, and enjoyment of the incredible land at Heartstone. You are in charge of securing your own accommodations (there are many Airbnbs in the area as well as some great hotel options in Lexington).
If you aren't interested in any of those options but would like to join my waitlist in case something opens up, please complete this form.

Saturday Sit Donation Update
I'm so incredibly grateful for the 20 people who should up this past weekend for my first Saturday Sit of 2023! Because of your generosity, through The Giving Wall, we were able to fill a need for a neighbor right here in Richmond's East End. Ronald is a father of 3 who is out of work due to a back injury. Our donation will keep his utilities on until he's able to secure a new job.
The Giving Wall is an incredible organization that connects neighbors who need support with those who are in a place to give it. In their words, they "invite people that don't look alike, live alike, or love alike, to break down the walls between people and progress. Right-now needs meet right-now support and right-now compassion." In my heart, I know that this is ultimately the work of meditation - dismantling the internal barriers that create the illusion of our separation from one another - so it feels like a meaningful extension of our work to increase Consciousness.
Here is a message from The Giving Wall to us:
