   >> Returning to Our Collective Humanity <<

What does it mean to return to our individual and collective humanity?

To me, it means returning to the deep, inherent knowing that all human beings deserve the right to basic, fundamental dignity; to live with the same access to what takes care of our basic needs - shelter, food, clean water, truthful education; to live free from fear of harm.

As Einstein says, this requires that we widen our circle of compassion to be fully inclusive. And, from my perspective, that requires we see, repeatedly and consciously, who we place outside of that circle.

While we can certainly support direct action through global organizations, the only place that we can do the direct, actual work is right here and right now - in our immediate lives - with our family members, neighbors, and members of the greater community.

Please take the time to stay with me here...

I hope that you will accept my invitation to join me and a collective of community members who have been working to launch a new art exhibit exploring race and identity through photography, storytelling, and interactive experiences co-curated by founder of The Well Collective, Ashley Williams, and Richmond artist and creative, Ron Stokes.

This event will rely on the engagement and interaction of community members like you. And we hope you will consider joining us in whatever way you can!

FIRST: This Sunday, 10/15 from 12-4pm, we are inviting folks to The Well Collective to explore race and identity through storytelling and photography. If you would like to participate, please complete this form and sign up for a time slot here. You're also welcome to drop in anytime within that window!

SECOND: If you are interested in supporting this specific event, the ongoing conversation, and it's future iterations, I invite you to consider a financial contribution either as an individual or, if possible, consider inviting business or organizations with which you are affiliated to consider sponsoring. Details on sponsorship can be found here. And if you're ready to contribute, you can do so here*.

*Your contribution will support the storytellers and subjects within the exhibit; provide materials and equipment to bring the artwork to life; foster relationship and relationship building through refreshment and sustenance at the event; and, ensure ongoing programming to keep the exhibit open and evolving over time. This is an on-going movement.

Please join us and invite your family, friends, and neighbors.

It is my hope that we can continue to acknowledge individual and collective harm in order to move towards individual and collective healing.

Take good care of yourself and those around you, and continue to lean in.

REGISTER FOR OCT SIT HERE

Saturday Sit - Oct 14th

This Saturday, 10/14, I will be holding my monthly meditation -- The Saturday Sit -- from 9-10am -- both in person and Zoom options available.

All donations from this month's sit will be split between Doctors without Borders and Save the Children's emergency fund.

If our practice teaches us anything it is that we have the capacity to hold more than one truth, no matter how conflictual, how oppositional those truths may seem, and still meet the world with an open and courageous heart.

Our practice illuminates the fact that unconsciousness creates tremendous, unimaginable suffering -- from the micro level to the macro. And it also gives us the tools to return to our humanity.

It is our privilege and responsibility to increase our own consciousness and to allow that to inform our actions in the world - in the conditions we face and within the interactions we have, moment by moment.

I hope you will join together with me this Saturday - from wherever you are.

Suggested donation: $10-$35
(**feel free to donate more in support of Doctors without Borders & Save the Children emergency fund)
